Pundit claims £64m Liverpool player will be ‘furious’ about tonight’s game

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will be quietly fuming about missing a golden chance against Toulouse this evening.

Nunez actually had a very good all-round game for the Reds. The 24-year-old bagged Liverpool’s third goal of the night and looked lively from start to finish.

But despite his goal, Darwin’s night will perhaps most be remembered for a quite astonishing miss. Having done the hard work, sitting down the defender and rounding the ‘keeper, the Reds’ No.9 hit the post with the goal gaping.

Thankfully, Ryan Gravenberch spared the Uruguayan’s blushes, following up to bury the ball in the net. Speaking to TNT Sports though, co-commentator Rachel Brown-Finnis claimed that Nunez will still be ‘furious’ with the wasted chance.

“He [Nunez] will be furious at not adding to his tally,” Brown-Finnis said. “But Gravenberch – who’s been outstanding tonight – has the presence of mind to follow it up, to be in the right place at the tight time.

“Nunez you felt had seized the moment seized the opportunity, but it’s good composure from Gravenberch. Inside he’s seething, but he’s seen his team put the game out of reach.”

Nunez misses golden opportunity

Just when you think Nunez is turning a bit of a corner with his finishing, he has a little moment to suggest otherwise.

His finish this evening was unerring and excellent. He could quite easily have messed it up, or hit the ‘keeper, but he slammed it past him into the net.

Couple it with a some of his other strikes this season, and you could deduce that Nunez has become a master finisher.

But then the £64m striker serves up a moment like this one. He really did do the hard part, slaloming beyond a couple of Toulouse players to get himself in-front of an open goal.

It looked like a second goal of the night was inevitable, but Darwin skewed his finish onto the post.

He sank to the turf in disappointment as Gravenberch fired it home. Nunez was soon up on his feet smiling, but that instant reaction portrayed exactly how he’ll be feeling tonight. Head up, Darwin, we go again.
