Gary Neville clears up what he heard from VAR during Liverpool vs Tottenham game

Gary Neville has said he knew something was wrong with VAR after Luis Diaz’s goal for Liverpool was disallowed against Tottenham last month.

Taking to Twitter, the Sky Sports commentator detailed what he saw from the gantry and the TV feed as VAR failed to award Liverpool a goal after Diaz was initially flagged for offside.

The incident has since gone down as one of the worst VAR mishaps in the Premier League, with audio from the officials going in infamy for the lack of common sense shown by those in the booth.

With Liverpool going on to lose the game 2-1, the decision could have costed their unbeaten record in the league as well as the chance to go top of the Premier League standings.

And with the quality of VAR still as poor as it is since the incident, Liverpool’s misfortune against Tottenham seem to have yielded any improvement from PGMOL.

Tottenham – Liverpool VAR controversy should have been a tipping point

Officiating in England has never been quite up to standard, and VAR’s shortcomings during Liverpool’s loss to Tottenham should have been a tipping point.

If commentators like Neville can spot from a mile away that something is wrong, then wholesale changes should have been made in the days after Liverpool’s VAR-based defeat to Tottenham.

However, aside from a few suspicions, little has happened, with VAR still as bad as it was last month when Jurgen Klopp’s side were robbed of points in north London.
