Liverpool have long been searching for someone to come in and be the ‘next Steven Gerrard’ at Anfield.
This season, Dominik Szoboszlai looks to have finally gone some way to doing that, slotting beautifully into Gerrard’s legendary No.8 shirt.
Beyond the Hungarian though, there might now be another player who could quite literally be the new Steven Gerrard – Bulgarian youngster Steven Gerrard Gaote.
Yes, that really is his name. The 15-year-old Levski Sofia talent is the latest internet sensation, having seen a goal for Bulgaria’s U17s go viral on Twitter.
Football Report seem to have first shared the video, which at time of writing has gathered 2 million views on one post alone and has been shared hundreds of times.
The goal itself is nothing out of the ordinary. A deep cross is volleyed home from six yards at the back post by Gaote. But just look at that name. Whatever he does in the game, he’ll be inextricably linked to Liverpool.
Next Steven Gerrard unearthed in Bulgaria
Now that Gaote is known to the public, there’ll be plenty keeping close tabs on what he does next.
Unlike his namesake, the 15-year-old is a forward. And according to the limited data available on Transfermarkt, he’s a bit of a goal machine.
The player database unfortunately only include statistics for his time with the Bulgaria underage teams. But it’s enough to see that young Stevie G G has a bit of something special.
Four goals in five games for the Bulgarian U15 side have seen Gaote promoted to a couple of years above his age.
Now playing with the U17s, the Levski Sofia prospect has two goals in three matches, including yesterday’s strike.

That’s obviously a very small sample size, but with Gaote seemingly on the very fringes of Levski’s first-team already, he’s clearly a real talent.
Currently playing in the U17s Euros qualifying, it would be a surprise if Liverpool weren’t already aware of the teenager.
Just like the rest of the world though, if they weren’t before then they should be now. What a story it would be if he ever ends up at Anfield!
