Liverpool are considering an option from the academy as a possible stand-in for the injured Andy Robertson.
Robertson is set to miss the next three months or so with a dislocated shoulder. As a result, the Reds are scrambling for options to cover on all fronts.
Kostas Tsimikas is the obvious understudy and started Saturday’s win over Everton. But with games coming thick and fast, The Athletic report that Jurgen Klopp is looking at other players for other competitions.
While Tsimikas appears to be set to deputise in the Premier League, they claim that 18-year-old Calum Scanlon is also ‘being considered.’

With four Europa League games and at least one Carabao Cup matches to play before the end of the year, Scanlon’s chance for minutes is said to have ‘increased.’
The left-back – who can also play further forward – has reportedly impressed staff with his ‘polite and respectful manner’ since arriving from Birmingham City in 2020.
He’s also been winning plenty of fans on the pitch, too. Described as a ‘modern-day full-back,’ Scanlon is claimed to excel ‘in the attacking side of the game.’ We like the sound of that.
Scanlon’s chances increase
It hasn’t been often that Liverpool have had to navigate many games without their star left-back.
As a result, Reds fans don’t get the chance to see what the academy have been cooking up in the position very much at all.
But now, with Robertson set to miss a fair chunk of games, they may just be about to.

And what the academy have been brewing looks to have the potential to be something special. Luke Chambers is another player seemingly being considered, and in he and Scanlon Liverpool apparently have two genuine options.
Chambers’ senior experience out on loan may just be what gives him the edge here. But having been injured during the most recent pre-season, the 19-year-old missed out on the chance to impress Klopp this summer.
In his absence, Scanlon stepped in and did really well.
With a Europa League game against Toulouse to come tomorrow, we’re likely to see one of these two make a full debut tomorrow. Exciting times for both Chambers and Scanlon who could have doors now flying open for them.
