Liverpool coach excited to see ‘aggressive’ youngster back to full fitness

Liverpool youth coach Barry Lewtas had praised Kaide Gordon’s return to fitness, with the winger featuring for the U-21s this weekend.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the U-21s head coach lauded the teenage attacker after the former Derby County wonderkid made his long-awaited return to youth football.

Gordon has been out for the best part of a year due to a number of growth-related injuries having broken into Liverpool’s senior squad in the 2021/22 season.

Despite the setbacks, the 19-year-old is now back to full fitness, with Gordon featuring this weekend as the winger now eyes a return to Jurgen Klopp’s senior fold.

Indeed, the path back to the first-team could be a challenging one, yet Lewtas’ comments hint at a player who is ready for the new season with the Liverpool coach saying:  “That’s a big thing for us as well as Kaide.

“He has had a little bit of a niggle really, an ankle roll, a football injury, so he was itching to get back. He wanted to play 90 minutes but we’ve just got to be careful. I thought he looked strong, he was aggressive, and the more game time we can get him, the better.”

It feels like it was only yesterday when Gordon was the talk of the town around Liverpool, yet a lot can happen in football.

Injuries have been unkind to the winger in the last 18 months, with Gordon missing out on a key stage of his career through means out of his hands.

With the attacker back, though, Gordon will be gagging to return to the senior squad, and Liverpool fans will also want to see the teenager back amongst Klopp’s ranks.
