Jurgen Klopp says £34m Liverpool star was ‘not his best’ vs Everton

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Mohamed Salah was not at his best for Liverpool against Everton, despite the winger being the hero.

Speaking to the press via the Reds’ official website, the Anfield boss noted that the winger wasn’t at his usual world-class best yesterday in the Merseyside Derby.

Salah was poor in the opening half and needed help from the spot and Liverpool’s substitutes to make a mark in the game.

Yet given how good Salah is, this was all that was needed for Liverpool to secure all three points against Everton, taking the Reds up to third in the Premier League standings.

Indeed, Salah has arguably been Liverpool’s best outfield player this season, yet even Klopp admits that the winger could have been better this weekend in the derby against Everton.

The Liverpool boss said: “Today was not his best game but then [still] being that clinical with the penalty and then staying in the situation, that’s probably his biggest quality, and I love that.”

Every player has a bad day at the office, and Salah certainly experienced that this weekend in one of Liverpool’s most important games of the season.

However, the winger’s numbers on the day prove just how good the attacker is, with Salah still the difference-maker on the day for the Reds.

Liverpool could have suffered an embarrassing draw at home had it not been for Salah, and the £34m forward’s performance saved Klopp and supporters at the right time.
