After Robertson, Liverpool now have another defensive injury concern ahead of Everton game

Liverpool could potentially be dealt a second blow after Andy Robertson was ruled out of Saturday’s Merseyside Derby.

Robertson was forced off the pitch during Scotland’s game against Spain last week and could reportedly be facing up to four months on the sidelines.

But according to The Times, that wasn’t the only injury issue for Liverpool during the international break.

They claim that one of the players who could have filled in for Robertson – youngster Luke Chambers – also has an issue.

Chambers is said to have withdrawn from representing England U19s after rolling his ankle during a training session.

The 19-year-old reportedly returned to Liverpool for treatment, although no update is given on his condition.

In the meantime, Kostas Tsimikas is claimed to be ‘in line’ to start for the Reds on Saturday. Let’s keep the Greek in cotton wool until then!

Chambers set to miss his chance

Following news that Robertson could be missing for a while, it had looked like a good opportunity for Chambers to impress.

Of course, Tsimikas is quite rightfully the first choice to step into Robbo’s boots.

But Liverpool have Europa League and Carabao Cup games on the docket over the next couple of months. Tsimikas can’t play all of them. As a result, Chambers is next in line.

There is a chance perhaps that the young defender’s return to Liverpool this week was done with exactly this in mind.

If the injury isn’t serious, then the Reds wouldn’t want to risk him anyway. Chambers has suddenly become much more important to Jurgen Klopp.

Regardless, the academy player wouldn’t have been in-line to play a part on Saturday anyway, unless something happens to Tsimikas.

So, let’s get him back in and get him ready for next Thursday, when he could be needed against Toulouse.
