Joe Gomez has lauded Leroy Sane, who according to reports is now wanted by Liverpool as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Speaking on the On The Judy Podcast, the Reds defender was full of praise for the Bayern Munich winger, who Gomez noted as one of the toughest he has faced in his career.
Sane was key for Manchester City in the 2018/19 Premier League title race with Liverpool, with the attacker scoring in the 2-1 win against Jurgen Klopp’s side that handed Pep Guardiola the championship.
Yet four years on from that season, Sane could now be heading back to the Premier League to join Liverpool, with Gomez clearly a big fan of the winger.
The former Charlton Athletic star said about facing Sane during his time at City: “At centre-half, you pay the price (for a mistake) with a goal.
“But at full-back I’ve come up against wingers such as (Leroy) Sane when he was at Manchester City, direct, the whole game I know is going to be a long one.”
Gomez praise should encourage Liverpool to move for Sane
Sane being linked with Liverpool has come as a surprise to many, but given just how good the attacker is, it’s one that hasn’t led to resentment from fans.
And Gomez’s praise for the winger should go far amongst Liverpool insiders, with the defender more than qualified to determine if Sane is a good fit for the Reds.
Indeed, the Bayern superstar has unfinished business in the Premier League, and Liverpool can be the club for Sane to hit his true potential under Klopp, who could be a dream manager for the winger.
