Reported Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips has admitted that he may have to look for a move in the January transfer window.
Phillips’ future has been the subject of much discussion in the early weeks of the season. Surplus to requirements at Manchester City, there have been plenty of rumours that Liverpool would consider an approach.
Nevertheless, the 27-year-old did get a rare start last night – for England in their 3-1 win over Italy. And speaking via The Telegraph after the game, Phillips was asked about his lack of minutes at club level.
“I kicked myself when I made that challenge, I knew it was going to be a yellow card,” said former Leeds United man, having picked up an early booking for a sloppy tackle.

“It is probably a lack of minutes at club level, I was maybe lucky not to get sent off.”
“I want to be playing as much as possible but I haven’t done that for a year and a half, I always try to make sure I am ready for whatever comes.
“I want minutes, I want to go to the Euros. We will see what happens.”
Phillips suggests he may leave
At this stage, it truly seems unlikely that Phillips playing or not will have any impact on his England chances.
Just like Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson, the £45m City man is near-guaranteed a sport regardless of form.
Nevertheless, even if that is the case, you’d imagine Phillips would want to head to the tournament in good shape.

Sitting on the bench at City may bring him more winners medals, but it won’t keep him match fit. As a result, it sounds like Phillips truly may be looking to find himself a new club in January.
From a Liverpool point of view, a move for the England international is perhaps dependent on where they find themselves in the table in the New Year.
If they’re up there challenging City, then there’s no way any transfer dealings will happen between the clubs. Let’s hope that’s the case.
But if the Reds fall off the pace, then perhaps Phillips moving to Anfield could become a possibility. It maybe wouldn’t be a popular move, but on a loan, Liverpool could do much worse. As Kalvin says, we will see.
