Assan Ouedraogo is reportedly keen to stay with Schalke 04 and to make his way to the Bundesliga despite rumours that Liverpool are interested.

According to Sky Germany, the 17-year-old wonderkid is eager to remain with his boyhood club for the meantime amid growing transfer interest from the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

Lauded by Football Talent Scout as a ‘powerful’ midfielder, Ouedraogo is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in all of Germany, with the teenager being a regular for Schalke this season.

With the German side back in the second-tier, a move to a Premier League giant like Liverpool could have been appealing for Ouedraogo heading into 2024.

However, it now looks like the Germany youth international wants to remain in his homeland and to push Schalke back to the top-flight, even with Liverpool knocking on his door.

Indeed, it’s a valiant stance to take so early on his career, and for Liverpool, Ouedraogo staying on at Schalke could actually be for the best.

At 17-years-old, Ouedraogo must feel like a player who has the world at his feet, and making the decision to stay with Schalke for the season is a smart one on many fronts.

Whilst it could mean Liverpool might have to pay more next summer, Ouedraogo will be a better player if he can continue playing for Schalke in the 2.Bundesliga.

As a result, the Reds will be getting a more finished product in Ouedraogo, who can reach a new level with Liverpool if he joins next year.
