Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke could now reportedly stay at the club despite the German’s contract with the Reds expiring at the end of this season.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, the Anfield transfer guru could remain in his position beyond the 2023/24 campaign after signing a one-year deal with Liverpool this summer.
Schmadtke was at the centre of most of Liverpool’s business in the window, with the Reds using the German’s Bundesliga contacts to make three key signings from the division.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been a revelation whilst Ryan Granberch has impressed, and now there’s a chance that Schmadtke could remain at Liverpool beyond his current contract.
Bailey said: “My understanding is that he could very well stay. They thought he did a very good job in the summer window. They failed to get Lavia or Caicedo but it wasn’t through a lack of agreement.
“Liverpool did their job, it was the players who didn’t agree to a deal, which isn’t technically Schmadtke’s fault. He was getting the deals done.”
Liverpool have no real reason to replace Schmadtke in 2024

Schmadtke was brought in as a short-term solution to guide Liverpool through the summer. Yet the German’s work has been more than impressive, and as a result, should change even be considered?
As we know, Liverpool are struggling to find a long-term replacement for Schmadtke, and the former Bundesliga official could be the answer all along for the Reds.
Signings this summer have been impressive, and if Schmadtke is keen to stay, then Liverpool should be looking to keep the German around beyond his 2024 contract.
