Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed that he was a big Liverpool fan when growing up.
Pictures of a young De Bruyne admitting to his love of the Reds have previously surfaced online. But until now, the Belgian superstar has never publicly spoken about it.
That changed when De Bruyne was asked to name his favourite team when growing up by a group of children via Football Escapes on Instagram.

“When I was young, Liverpool,” admitted the 32-year-old. Asked if he would be signing for Liverpool as a result, De Bruyne was pretty emphatic.
“No! No,” he laughed.
Come on, Kev, you know you want to!
Liverpool miss out on De Bruyne
Although De Bruyne could hardly be classed as a ‘one who got away’ for Liverpool, it is a shame they couldn’t capitalise on his support.
Having been snapped up by Chelsea as a youngster, his quality was always clear. Few would have predicted the Belgium international would turn into the World-Class midfielder he has back when he left Stamford Bridge, but having subsequently excelled at Wolfsburg, it did become more obvious.
When City signed him for £55m back in 2015, perhaps Liverpool should have been in the running.

It’s true that in those times, the Reds were far away from the attractive proposition they are today. But having just spent a combined £63m on Christian Benteke and Robeto Firmino, they did have some money to spend.
Given his allegiances, surely Liverpool could have persuaded KDB to get on board with their project. Imagine what he could have become under Jurgen Klopp.
From that point onwards, there was never going to be any chance of taking him from City. Although he didn’t immediately excel, De Bruyne soon transformed into the Citizen’s key man.
With the rivalry between the two clubs now very much a factor, there’s no chance of a James Milner-esque switch once his contract ends in 2025. A shame for us and in truth, a shame for De Bruyne who’ll never realise his dream of playing for the Reds.
