FSG stopped Liverpool move for ‘incredible’ £58m star this summer

Liverpool’s FSG owners were reportedly the key reason behind the Reds’ failed bid to sign Belgian international Romeo Lavia this summer.

According to the Athletic, the American-based conglomerate were reluctant to overspend for the former Southampton midfielder, with Liverpool having three bids rejected for Lavia.

As we know, the midfielder ended up signing for Chelsea in a £58m deal, with Lavia yet to even feature on the bench for Mauricio Pochettino’s side since joining in August due to injury.

With Liverpool instead moving for Ryan Gravenberch, it seems like FSG’s decision was actually a smart one in hindsight, with the Dutch youngster impressing for the Anfield side this season.

Lauded by Pep Guardiola as an ‘incredible’ player, Lavia could have settled at Liverpool rather than struggled initially at Chelsea.

However, many fans would currently agree that FSG and Liverpool made the right call in giving up on Lavia, who is yet to even make the bench for Chelsea this campaign.

And supporters really should be thanking FSG for their role in Liverpool’s transfer strategy, with the Belgian youngster struggling with fitness this season.

With Gravenberch also looking like a talent for the future, missing out on Lavia has opened the door for Liverpool on another exciting prospect, who could feature for the Reds for many years to come.
