Clinton Morrison says he was ‘surprised’ that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool didn’t sign James Ward-Prowse prior to his transfer to West Ham United.
After eight Premier League games, the recently-relegated Southampton star has been one of the signings of the summer for David Moyes’ West Ham.
In the summer, midfield players dominated the transfer market with many teams breaking the bank to bring in those top players.
Liverpool brought in four new faces, with Morrison suggesting that James Ward-Prowse, who has ‘everything’ to his game, would have been a good fit on Merseyside, as he told Sky Sports News (08/10/23).
The Reds have knocked on the door of a relegated team before and brought in a midfield player – Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle United – and that transfer worked wonders.
Plus, Liverpool haven’t been shy to bring in players from St Mary’s before, so it’s a road that does work for the team.

James Ward-Prowse at Liverpool
“You can talk about his free-kicks and set-pieces, which is brilliant because it can get you like 10-15 goals a season, but he has got more than that,” said Morrison.
“You saw that he is running beyond Michail Antonio. He can pass the ball. He can do everything a midfielder can do.
“I was surprised West Ham got him for such a cheap price because I thought there would be a lot of other teams, like Liverpool, in the market for him – but he has gone to West Ham and he has started the season ever so well.”

James Ward-Prowse’s England snub
Domestic football will now be halted for a fortnight with international football, every supporter’s favourite time of the year, to take centre stage.
Ward-Prowse hasn’t been selected by England manager Gareth Southgate which has surprised many given his form.
Not only that, players like Kalvin Phillips, who can’t even earn minutes as a defensive midfielder ahead of Bernardo Silva, is getting picked.
