Liverpool U18s secured a brilliant result on Saturday, thrashing Sunderland 7-1.
It was a big result for the youngsters, and according to liverpoolfc.com, there were a couple of nice little side-stories in there, too.
First of all, there was another goal for summer signing Trey Nyoni. It was a third goal in three U18 Premier League games for the 16-year-old, who’s really hit the ground running at Liverpool.

But despite Nyoni’s continued brilliance, the day belonged to Trent Kone-Doherty. The 17-year-old has been catching the eye so far this season, already seeing a call-up to first-team training.
And against Sunderland, he was at it again. Three goals for the Irishman, who will no doubt have his eye on another senior call-up soon. Jayden Danns bagged two as well, with 15-year-old Joe Bradshaw also a notable scorer.
Kone-Doherty steals the show
After today’s game, Kone-Doherty now has five goals in five U18 Premier League games this season. He’s on fire.
Having also scored for the U21 side in Premier League 2, the flying winger is starting to make a name for himself.
After arriving last summer from Derry City, it was always pretty clear that he had the talent to. Although not as explosive as Ben Doak, who arrived at the same time, Kone-Doherty is a hugely exciting forward player.

It’s true that in the first-team right now, Jurgen Klopp isn’t exactly short of those. But as injuries and suspension start to hit the seniors a little, perhaps the manager will cast his eye towards Kone-Doherty at some point.
In reality, a call-up does seem some distance away from the teenager. But as he proved with Doak, Klopp does keep a close eye on those excelling in the underage groups.
As the season develops, and Kone-Doherty maintains his good form, who’s to say he won’t catch Jurgen’s attention.
Hat-tricks are always one way of doing that. And having got his first one in a Liverpool shirt today, young Trent will be in the mood to keep the momentum going.
