Liverpool have not formally requested that their game with Tottenham Hotspur be replayed.

Nevertheless, manager Jurgen Klopp almost broke the internet with his suggestion on Wednesday that if it were up to him, then the game would indeed be played again.

And according The Independent’s Reading The Game newsletter, this has been enough to ‘aggravate’ rival Premier League clubs.

They claim that there’s a feeling amongst top-flight clubs that Klopp left the suggestion ‘hanging there.’ Meanwhile, when they’ve had poor decisions go against them, they’ve all simply moved on without taking things further.

This doesn’t appear to what Liverpool plan on doing, though. Although no replay has been requested, the Reds are reportedly still ‘assessing options’ in regards to their next steps.

Liverpool not letting it go

This is honestly great to hear. There’s a key point in the newsletter here which shows exactly why Liverpool should not let this go.

According to The Independent, Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal was not merely a bad ‘mistake,’ it was in-fact a direct breach of UEFA on-pitch rules.

As a result, there appears to be a feeling that something can still be done. It seems impossible that this would be a replay, but Liverpool don’t seem to be settling down until they’ve seen some tangible compensation in one way or another.

There is a second part to this too, though. And that’s that the Reds do genuinely want to see some meaningful change brought about.

There are a number of things that could be reviewed and altered in regards to this incident, and Liverpool appear determined to make sure that they are.

In regards to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals, well, why would we expect anything less? As Jamie Carragher pointed out in his column for The Telegraph yesterday, this is a group who actively tried to null and void a season which would have stopped the Reds winning the league title in 2020.

You can smell the self-interest from here. Keep on pushing, Reds, don’t let this lie!
