Jurgen Klopp has given a positive update on the condition of injured forward Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo had been in good form before injury forced him off the field against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. But having missed yesterday’s win over Union Saint-Gilloise, it seems the Dutchman will be back very soon.
Speaking in his preview of the Brighton game on Sunday, Klopp said Gakpo looked to have avoided serious injury, and should return after the international break.

“Cody has a good chance that he will be back [after the break],” said the manager. “Already out of the brace, walks normal around here.
“So from all the very, very bad opportunities and possibilities injury-wise, we nearly got the best, but he is still injured.”
Gakpo almost ready for return
Although he’ll miss Sunday’s match, it seems hopeful that Cody will return for Liverpool’s first fixture after the international break.
For those unaware, that’s the small matter of a Merseyside Derby at Anfield. Having scored his first Liverpool goal in this fixture last season, Gakpo will no doubt be desperate to get himself fit.
The Reds could do with him as well. After a slow start to the season, the 24-year-old has three goals in his last three Liverpool starts.

If you include his strikes while away with the Netherlands in September, Gakpo has actually scored five times in his last five starts. That’s good going.
He may not offer the dynamism of a Darwin Nunez, or the relentless output of a Mohamed Salah, but the former PSV captain really does add something special to Liverpool.
Hopefully he stays on track through the international break and we see him during the derby.
One man who probably won’t be seen for a little while is Thiago Alcantara. Klopp today confirmed that the Spaniard has suffered another injury setback. So frustrating!
