Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been left out of the Republic of Ireland’s latest squad.

The list of players to take on Greece and Gibraltar was announced earlier today on the Ireland Football official Twitter page.

Those with a keen eye noticed that the usually included Kelleher was nowhere to be seen. Well, the Irish Examiner have now cleared this up, with a report claiming that the 24-year-old is actually currently injured.

Although Kelleher is described as a ‘notable absentee,’ no further information is given on the nature of his injury. Bristol City ‘keeper Max O’Leary comes into the side instead.

With Kelleher due to be in action for Liverpool in the Europa League today, Jurgen Klopp will now have to change his plans.

Kelleher injury worry

Following the Examiner’s report, The Athletic have now confirmed that Kelleher is injured once again. He will miss tonight’s game.

They claim that the Irishman has ‘picked up a knock’ which will rule him out of the Europa League match, as well as the two international games.

In his absence, Klopp will not be able to call on veteran goalie Adrian, who isn’t registered in Europe this season.

So, it’s claimed that regular No.1 Alisson Becker is the ‘most likely’ candidate to play instead.

However, there’s reportedly a chance that Klopp will decide to hand a debut to Fabian Mrozek, Viteszlav Jaros or Marcelo Pitaluga, all of whom are said to have trained as normal yesterday.

It marks a worrying reoccurrence for the Kelleher, who missed a chunk of last season with a problem. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.
