Liverpool will review the VAR audio for Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal on Saturday before it’s made public.

The Reds have requested to hear what was said between the officials as they wrongly chalked-off Diaz’s goal for offside against Tottenham Hotspur.

And according to journalist Miguel Delaney, that request has been granted. However, reporting via Twitter, Delaney says that there are still a couple of steps that need to happen before the wider public hear the tapes.

“PGMOL are giving the audio to Liverpool,” explains the journalist.

“It will be reviewed before it’s made public, but that will also happen – and may well be before Webb’s Mic’d Up Show.”

PGMOL set to release Diaz audio

It’s interesting that PGMOL are allowing Liverpool a first listen of these tapes, but it doesn’t really seem necessary.

Delaney insists that the audio will be made public eventually anyway, so there’s really no benefit to that.

The only real reason to give the Reds the jump, is that perhaps they’re hoping Liverpool will say they’ve heard enough, and there’s no need for the whole world to hear what went on.

At this point though, the story is far too much in the public interest for that to happen, anyway. Fans, pundits, everyone really now needs to know what was said.

Quite what will happen next is unclear. But the starting point always had to be hearing exactly what was said between VAR Darren England, his assistant Dan Cook, and on-field referee Simon Hooper.

Whether that will satisfy Liverpool remains to be seen. It’s hard to imagine anything said between the officials could placate the Reds, though.

Whatever is said, a monumental mistake was still made. Rather than make things easier for them, it feels that the audio we hear will only serve to make things more embarrassing for PGMOL. Bring it on.
