Liverpool are reportedly scouting Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo, with Bayern Munich also interested in the Brazilian teenager.

According to 90min, the Reds are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old centre-back, who as per Tropa Tricolor has a release clause worth €60m (£52m).

A left-footed defender, the youngster has established himself with both Sao Paulo and Brazil’s U-20 side as one of the most exciting prospects in all of South America.

As per the report, Liverpool could now viewing Beraldo as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, with the defender ticking a lot of boxes for what the Reds want in a new centre-back signing.

Indeed, Liverpool were interested in such a player this summer, but the midfield overhaul took complete priority in the window, meaning no new defender was signed.

However, that could be about to change in January, and Beraldo could be an exceptional signing for Liverpool if they can beat European competition to the defender.

The defence is in need of some work heading into 2024, with the likes of Van Dijk, Joel Matip and even Joe Gomez all likely to have successors brought in via the transfer market.

And Beraldo could be one such player who is signing, with the Brazilian youth international one of the most exciting talents in all of South American and ideal for Liverpool’s future plans.

Whilst competition for the defender is strong, Liverpool know that they have the resources to sign Beraldo, who could be a sensational addition for the Reds.
