Alisson now shares the idea he’s had to make VAR so much better

Alisson Becker has detailed his opinion on how VAR can be improved in the Premier League after Liverpool were incorrectly disallowed a goal against Tottenham.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Brazilian international claimed that the technology should be used in the same manner that FIFA used in the recent 2022 World Cup.

VAR received massive plaudits in last winter’s competition, with the world’s best referees coming to Qatar to ensure that football’s biggest tournament ran as smoothly as possible.

Yet such a claim can’t be made about the Premier League, where even something as simple as awarding an onside goal seems to cause mass panic in the VAR war room at Stockley Park.

And Alisson wants FIFA’s use of VAR used in England, with the Liverpool star saying: “I’ve always said VAR is good, precisely for these unfair situations.

“Incredibly, these things continue to happen with something so simple, something that is so objective. And the technology is there. Why don’t you use the technology FIFA used in the World Cup?”

Liverpool will hope wholesale VAR change is coming

As Alisson himself says, VAR can be a great thing in the Premier League if the technology is implemented correctly and used in a way that makes the game run smoother.

But with officials using VAR to seemingly find mistakes in everything whilst also missing clear and obvious errors, wholesale changes are needed in the Premier League.

As a result, Liverpool will hope that the madness that they had to endure on Saturday will lead to a revelation of sorts for VAR in England, where the technology is well below par.
