Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Cody Gakpo may have suffered a serious injury against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutchman was on the scoresheet for Liverpool, but went down in some discomfort after firing in the equaliser, having been fouled by Destiny Udogie just before the goal.

And speaking in his post-match press conference via liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said that it could be a bad one for Gakpo.

“The biggest problem of the game, to be honest… before Cody Gakpo scored, we got a free-kick and he got injured and he is now with a brace limping down the corridor,” said the manager.

“That’s my biggest problem, to be honest, in this moment. We lost two [to red cards] and maybe a third player – really bad, really bad. So, yes, that’s something we have to deal with obviously.

Asked if the injury for Gakpo was a ‘bad one’, Klopp admitted that it could be. “Possibly, I don’t know,” responded the German.

“He wore a brace. He scored a goal but afterwards, but after that shot he felt it even more. It was from the foul before.”

Liverpool suffer Gakpo blow

By the sounds of things Gakpo will almost certainly be ruled out of Liverpool’s next two games before the international break.

With Diogo Jota also now suspended for next weekend’s visit to Brighton, Klopp’s options are starting to thin.

The manager confirmed that Darwin Nunez missed today’s game with a slight issue carried over from the last international break, too. The Uruguayan is going to have to be OK to start against the Seagulls.

Although Liverpool do have one heck of a forward line, this is a good example of how you just simply never know what’s coming in football.

It’s a real shame for Gakpo as well. The 24-year-old got his third goal in four games against Spurs, he’s started to hit some form after a slow start to the season.

In the end it meant little, but it was a good goal from Gakpo and Liverpool will miss him if he’s out for an extended period.

Fingers crossed that it isn’t as bad as it sounds. But it isn’t looking too good.
