Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Nat Phillips has returned from injury, with the on-loan Liverpool defender picking up an ankle problem on his Celtic debut.

Speaking to the Herald, the former Anfield boss revealed that Phillips has rejoined Celtic in training and that there is a chance that the Liverpool centre-back could feature this weekend against Motherwell.

Rodgers said: “Nat Phillips we are keeping an eye on, he has rejoined the group but we just have to make sure with his ankle. But that looks much better. Hopefully (he will be back) for the weekend.”

Valued at £10m, Liverpool loaned Phillips to Celtic with the defender unlikely to feature for the Reds this season given their current centre-back options.

Whilst the 26-year-old was injured on his debut for the Hoops, many expect Phillips to flourish in Glasgow with Celtic, especially under Rodgers.

And this update from the former Liverpool manager confirms that the defender is finally back to fitness, with Phillips potentially in contention to start for Celtic on Saturday.

Phillips is painfully aware that this loan spell at Celtic could make-or-break his top-flight career, and the defender will want to make his return a memorable one for the Hoops.

The defender could gain some crucial minutes this weekend against Motherwell, with Celtic hosting Lazio in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

And Phillips returning from injury now is key, with the 26-year-old centre-back well-positioned to feature for Celtic in the coming weeks.
