Jurgen Klopp has detailed Curtis Jones’ excitement over playing at right-back for Liverpool last night against Leicester City.
Speaking to the press via the club’s official website, the Liverpool boss revealed that the 22-year-old midfielder was buzzing to play in a new position last night in the League Cup.
Jones slotted in at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez both out through injury, with the youngster also wearing the captain’s armband against the Foxes.
And Jones impressed in his new role, with Liverpool now having another option in the right-back role as the midfielder shined against Leicester.
Indeed, the tactical decision was quite the surprise, yet Jones was keen to do it, with Klopp saying: “Yesterday, when I told him he would be playing right-back, the same moment.
“I sold the right-back idea with the captaincy, let me say it like that. But he was already completely excited when I told him that he will play right-back.”

Klopp threw some surprises in Liverpool’s League Cup clash against Leicester, yet the German manager set up his side perfectly at Anfield.
Despite falling behind yet again, Liverpool were impressive against the Championship favourites, and Jones starting at right-back was an inspired decision from Klopp.
Moreover, the tactical move now means Liverpool have another cover option for Alexander-Arnold, with Jones adding another bow to his quiver in the Anfield squad.
