Sofyan Amrabat has detailed his decision to join Manchester United this summer amid reports that Liverpool almost signed the midfielder.

Speaking to the Express, the Morocco international revealed that he only wanted a move to Old Trafford, with the £25m-rated ACF Fiorentina star joining United on loan on deadline day.

With Liverpool instead signing Ryan Gravenberch, Amrabat’s decision to join United has seemingly worked out for the best for all parties.

Indeed, things could have been a lot different had Amrabat signed for Liverpool, yet it appears that the midfielder had no intention of joining anyone but United.

Amrabat said on how his summer went: “A lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me, it was clear I wanted Manchester United.

“It was long, long months for me, difficult months for me, but in the end it’s nice on the last day that I signed here and that I’m here is now the most important (thing).”

Liverpool made the right call in missing out on Amrabat

Amrabat was reportedly mere hours away from signing with Liverpool this summer, yet in hindsight, the Reds made the right call in pursuing Gravenberch in the end.

The 21-year-old has looked the part for Liverpool already, and whilst Amrabat would have been a short-term fix for Jurgen Klopp, Granveberch’s potential is simply too exciting to turn down.

With the Moroccan international finding his feet already with United, the deal has worked out well with all parties, and Liverpool can now focus on developing Gravenberch into a world-beater.
