Pundit thinks Liverpool are using £35m star completely wrong vs West Ham

Stephen Warnock has suggested that Liverpool are using Alexis Mac Allister in the wrong role against West Ham this afternoon.

Speaking on BBC Five Live, the pundit is not convinced that the Argentine international has what it takes to start as a holding midfielder for Liverpool.

Warnock said: “I’m still not sure about Mac Allister in this holding role, I don’t think he’s athletically good enough to do that role and to sense danger.”

Whilst Mac Allister’s numbers have been good for Liverpool in the holding role, there’s no denying that the Reds aren’t getting the best out of the 24-year-old in the midfield.

Signed for £35m from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, Mac Allister thrived as a complete attacking midfielder for the Seagulls, something Liverpool are not opting to do with the Argentine.

And as a result, the Reds are yet to see the best from Mac Allister, with Klopp yet to truly unleash the midfielder into his best role in the midfield.

Mac Allister is clearly a talented midfielder, but most Liverpool fans would agree that the utilisation of the new Anfield star has not been the best this season.

In a holding role, Klopp is getting little out of what has made Mac Allister such an impressive player, with the midfielder better going forward rather than sitting deep.

And today of all games should be one that sees Klopp push Mac Allister further up the pitch, with the Argentine a player who can help in the forward line.
