Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names ex-Liverpool star as worst opponent

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino as the player who caused him the most problems as manager of Manchester United.

Speaking to the Athletic, the former Red Devils coach revealed that the Brazilian international was the player who gave Solskjaer the biggest headache during his time at Old Trafford.

Liverpool were dominant against United during Solskjaer’s tenure at the club, with the Reds winning by scorelines of 4-0 and 5-0 against their Manchester rivals.

And perhaps unsurprisingly, Solskjaer has named Firmino as the player who he hated facing the most, with the forward often turning up for Liverpool in the big games.

With Firmino leaving Anfield this summer, United won’t have to face taking on the attacker this season, and Solskjaer has given the striker a deserved piece of praise.

The Norwegian manager said: “Roberto Firmino was probably the opposition player who caused me the most problems as a manager.”

Solskjaer could still have nightmares of facing Liverpool

With just one win in eight games against Liverpool as a manager, Solskjaer’s time on the touchline facing the Reds hasn’t been a fruitful one.

And the former United manager could still be having nightmares about the Anfield side, with Arsenal the only side to have as good a record against Solskjaer in the Premier League.

Indeed, Firmino will be a main reason behind this fear, and Solskjaer will no doubt be grateful that the forward is now in Saudi Arabia having left Merseyside this summer.
