Pep Guardiola has stated that Liverpool’s mentality could make Jurgen Klopp’s side Premier League contenders this season.

Speaking to the press via BBC Sport, the Manchester City manager named the Reds alongside Arsenal as two of the sides who could challenge the reigning Premier League holders for the title.

Guardiola said: “You know how strong are Arsenal, yesterday at Goodison Park they are exceptional. Liverpool again, the mentality is continued there.”

Liverpool remain unbeaten in the Premier League after their first five games, with West Ham coming up next for the Anfield side this weekend.

And the Reds have shown already this season that they’re willing to fight, with Liverpool coming from behind against the likes of AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United and now Wolves to claim wins.

Indeed, Liverpool look like their old selves this season, and Guardiola’s claim that their mentality could lead them to the title is a smart one to make.

Liverpool are something of a dark horse this season with pundits and fans all expecting Arsenal to once again be City’s main rivals for the title this season.

However, given Klopp’s experience in challenging City for the championship, the Reds are arguably as good a contender for the title than Mikel Arteta’s side.

As a result, Liverpool can certainly go all the way for the Premier League this season, with City likely to struggle against the Anfield side when they encounter each other later in the campaign.
