Germany are reportedly close to appointing Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach amid rumours that Jurgen Klopp was a target.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Bayern Munich manager will be named as Hansi Flick’s successor, with the DFB in talks with Nagelsmann to take the position.

Given Klopp’s reputation as arguably the best German manager currently working in the game, it makes sense why the Liverpool boss was linked with the role.

However, with Nagelsmann now closing in on the position, Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief that the Anfield manager won’t be leaving Merseyside anytime soon.

Moreover, a coach as good as Nagelsmann taking the position could mean that Klopp being linked with the Germany job might be put on the back burner for a few more years.

The Germany job is arguably the only role Klopp might consider quitting Liverpool for, yet with the DFB closing in on Nagelsmann, the Reds should no longer feat of such an outcome in the future.

The former Bayern and RB Leizpig coach is one of the best young manages in Europe and a figure who could be a dream fit for the Germany national team.

And for Liverpool, Nagelsmann succeeding with Germany will lead to Klopp staying on with the Anfield side, with the Reds in no position to find a successor for the boss at this stage.
