Liverpool to battle Barcelona & Man Utd for ‘phenomenal’ player

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Royal Antwerp teenager Arthur Vermeeren, with FC Barcelona and Manchester United also interested.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Reds are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old with Vermeeren establishing himself as one of Belgium’s next great talents.

Lauded by Belgium’s U-17 coach David Penneman as a ‘phenomenal’ prospect, the defensive-minded midfielder was a key part for Antwerp in their historic league-winning season.

With the Belgian side also competing in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history, Vermeeren’s talents have taken Antwerp to new heights in recent months.

And now, Liverpool are interested in signing Vermeeren, though the Reds face strong competition already from the likes of Barcelona and United.

Indeed, Liverpool have quite the battle on their hands for Vermeeren, yet given the youngster’s position and what Jurgen Klopp is looking for, Anfield could be a dream destination for the teenager.

Liverpool would be a smart next move for Vermeeren

Liverpool spent their entire summer overhauling the midfield, and with the likes of Thiago Alcantara set to leave Merseyside next year, Vermeeren could be a good signing for the Reds.

Experienced already at the highest level and set to feature in the Champions League group stage, Liverpool could want Vermeeren more than the midfielder wants the Reds.

And if the Anfield side can beat Barcelona and United to Vermeeren’s signature, Liverpool will land one of Europe’s exciting talents whilst also beating a key rival to a target.
