Alisson Becker has admitted he fears Liverpool could lose the confidence built at the start of the season with the timing of the international break ahead of facing Wolves.
A trip to Molineux awaits Jurgen Klopp and his team on Saturday as the Premier League gets going again. Liverpool had started this season strongly with three wins and one draw to rank third in the table. They have also scored nine goals to just three conceded so far in 2023/24.
Liverpool even kept their first clean sheet of the campaign in their most recent game against Aston Villa. Alisson shut the Villans out to help grab a 3-0 win at Anfield before the break for international matches. He had conceded once during each of their opening three meetings.

Alisson fears the international break could now harm Liverpool
Alisson feels the Reds’ winning streak gave Liverpool a lot of confidence after kicking off the term by drawing with Chelsea. The Merseyside natives now travel to Wolves looking to keep up their momentum. But Klopp’s squad suffered a 3-0 defeat on their last visit this February.
An own goal by Joel Matip helped fuel the Old Gold’s cause before Craig Dawson and Ruben Neves hit home. Liverpool and Alisson found themselves 2-0 down inside just 12 minutes at Wolves. Now, the Brazilian fears the international break could jeopardise their current form.

“We are all excited about the start of the season,” Alisson told the Liverpool website. “The way we have started, the way the team is improving game by game [and] going through difficult moments, as well.

“Winning games in difficult circumstances, I think, is something that gives you confidence. And after a long period in the international break, sometimes you can lose it if you don’t keep this feeling in you.
“So, now it’s time for us to put it back on the next challenge that we have in front of us. This is the main challenge. I think we have to think game-by-game [and] step-by-step, just focus on ourselves to make our best and to win games.”
Defeat at Wolves came amid a bad run for the Reds

The Reds’ defeat at Wolves in February came amid a bad run of results for Liverpool. Klopp’s squad had just drawn with Chelsea following back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion. Yet they would win four of their following five, including at Newcastle United.
Liverpool also thrashed Manchester United 7-0 in their fifth match after Alisson and co could not deny Wolves a result. So, the Reds have proven they can quickly regain their confidence on the back of a frustrating day at Molineux. But Klopp will want to avoid a defeat this time.
