Liverpool reportedly scouted Giorgio Scalvini this week, though Manchester United have also watched the Italian international.

According to 90min, the Reds had officials in attendance at the San Siro to watch the Atalanta teenager, with Scalvini arguably the most exciting prospect coming through in Serie A.

Lauded by Gazzetta dello Sport as a ‘generational talent’, the 19-year-old has been a regular for Atalanta since breaking through into the first-team at 17, and Liverpool are now keeping tabs on Scalvini.

With Liverpool in need of a new defender in 2024, Scalvini could be an ideal signing given his incredible experience at the highest level at such a young age.

However, doing business with Atlanta could be tricky, with United finding that out first-hand this summer in their pursuit to sign Danish international Rasmus Hojlund.

Indeed, such a proposition could put Liverpool moving for Scalvini. However, given how good the teenager is, the chase might be worth it and then some for the Reds.

Scalvini is a defender who is on course to become one of the best in Europe, with some in Italy already predicting that the centre-back could one day become captain of the Azzurri.

And for Liverpool, moving to sign Scalvini would be a risky but worthwhile chase for the Anfield side, with the 19-year-old an ideal long-term replacement for one Virgil van Dijk.

Atalanta will put up a big fight for Scalvini, yet if Liverpool can prove victorious, the Reds will have a defender who can star in the defence for the next 15 years.
