Danny Murphy has said Roberto De Zerbi could be the dream replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool should the German leave.

Speaking on TalkSport, the pundit suggested that the Brighton & Hove Albion coach might be the perfect candidate to succeed Klopp if the Liverpool boss was to quit for the Germany job.

Rumours have been rife in recent days over whether Klopp would leave Anfield to take over the national team of his native country, though the odds still remain very small.

Despite the likelihood of such a move even happening, Murphy has thrown his ideal candidate into the ring, that being Brighton boss De Zerbi.

Murphy said: “I think De Zerbi is perfect. He’ll be ready then. He plays great football, he looks like a strong character, he’s learning his trade in this league with Brighton and doing it superbly well.

“And if Jurgen, which he isn’t, for some bizarre reason was to decide that was a good option for him, then I don’t see a better candidate.”

Klopp leaving Liverpool for Germany feels close to impossible, yet should the unlikeliest of managerial moves happen, then De Zerbi is ideal to take over.

The Italian manager has worked wonders for Brighton since joining last season, and the only way is up for the Seagulls coach, with Liverpool an ideal next step.

Indeed, Brighton’s fluid attacking play would make De Zerbi a hit with Liverpool’s forward players and their fans, and the setting could suit the Italian to succeed Klopp’s incredible work at Anfield.
