Wataru Endo has detailed how he received offers from other Premier League clubs before signing for Liverpool.

Speaking to Syncronous, the Japanese international revealed that other top-flight English sides had made approaches to his agent before Liverpool came in with an offer that won his attention.

Endo was arguably Liverpool’s biggest surprise signing of the summer as the former VfB Stuttgart star joined the Reds in a quick-fire transfer saga for £18m.

At 31-years-old, Endo was also the oldest player Liverpool recruited in the window, with the midfielder expected to fill in the leadership void left by Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Yet things could have been very different had Liverpool not moved for Endo, with the former Bundesliga star revealing that other Premier League clubs came in for him this summer.

Endo said: “I had heard from my agent that there were a few possibilities, including mid-table clubs in the Premier League, so I was happy when I heard Liverpool’s offer. I heard the offer on August 18th, and from there it was a blur.”

Endo to Liverpool certainly caught a lot of pundits and supporters by surprise, yet the midfielder could turn out to be quite the addition for the Reds.

The 31-year-old is at the peak of his powers and comes to Anfield with a fantastic reputation from Germany, with Endo also providing some much-needed leadership and experience to the midfield.

And had the Japanese international joined another Premier League side, many fans would have questioned why Liverpool didn’t move for Endo this summer, such is the midfielder’s ability.
