Jurgen Klopp has said that Moussa Diaby was ‘hiding’ in Aston Villa’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Speaking to the Athletic, the Reds boss claimed that the French winger was quiet in the attacking midfield role, with Joe Gomez keeping Diaby at bay for the entire match.

Having been one of the best wingers in the Premier League this season, many Liverpool fans were expecting Diaby to run the show for Villa this weekend.

However, the former Bayer Leverkusen star endured his most challenging fixture yet for Unai Emery’s side, with Diaby not getting a sniff for the visitors against Liverpool.

And Klopp is all too aware that the attacker had a quiet game, with the Liverpool boss going as far to say that the forward was hiding in the midfield from the Reds’ defenders.

Klopp said on Diaby’s performance: “Both centre-halves played an exceptional game with different jobs. Diaby hiding in midfield in the no.10 position, Joey had to step in there.”

Diaby’s transition from the Bundesliga to the Premier League has been flawless, but there’s no denying that the winger struggled this weekend against Liverpool for Villa.

The Frenchman was quiet all game and never had a shot at causing Alisson Becker any problems between the sticks, with Diaby missing from the first whistle onwards.

And Klopp’s assessment of the attacker hits the nail on the head, with Emery no doubt going to have stern words with the winger during the international break.
