Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil could be set for a deadline day move, with Liverpool sending scouts to watch him.
Neil has been a key player over the last couple of seasons for Sunderland. Having come through the academy, he’s gone on to play over a hundred times for the club, with Black Cats legend Kevin Phillips hailing him as a ‘brilliant’ player [Sunderland Echo].
And according to journalist Mike McGrath, that has caught the attention of some of the country’s biggest sides. Taking to Twitter this morning, McGrath suggested that the 21-year-old could be on the move today, with Liverpool mentioned as an interested party.
“Sunderland central midfielder Dan Neil on radar of Premier League clubs on deadline day,” says the journalist.
“Liverpool have sent scouts to watch England Under-20 international who has played regular as a teenager in League One and Championship.”
Providing a follow-up half an hour or so later, McGrath reported that Sunderland had in fact rejected a bid for Neil, but not from Liverpool.

“Burnley have had loan + obligation bid rejected by Sunderland and are weighing up another offer,” he says.
Neil won’t be a name familiar to too many Liverpool fans, but he looks like an impressive young midfielder. With the Reds seeing their homegrown spots depleted over the summer, you can see why a move would make sense.
One to keep an eye on as the day progresses.
