Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie would love to join Liverpool on deadline day.
After months of rumours, conjecture and some actual transfers, the summer window is set to close at 11pm today. Before then, Liverpool have a Ryan Gravenberch shaped deal to finalise, and could be in the market for a centre-back.
If they are indeed looking for a defender though, journalist Ben Jacobs says that it won’t be Hincapie. Taking to Twitter last night, Jacobs said that although the 21-year-old wants the move, it isn’t going to happen.

“Liverpool will not be moving for Piero Hincapie,” says the journalist. “Never been concrete interest despite links. Although true Hincapie would welcome an approach, LFC never seriously entertained one.
“West Ham probably the most genuine Premier League suitor this summer but never made an offer.”

Hincapie not on Liverpool agenda
It’s clear that Liverpool will have taken a look at Hincapie. Although Leverkusen seemingly don’t want to lose him, the defender would reportedly push to leave the Germans if a bid of around £35m came in.
With that information very much out in public, the Reds must have known that they could snap the Ecuadorian up for a reasonable fee.
Left-footed, young and with plenty of potential, he’d appear to fit the bill for Liverpool.

But, for whatever reason, they have decided to keep their powder dry.
For now, it looks quite likely that Liverpool will not be adding a centre-back to their squad today. Plenty won’t be happy about that, and plenty would have no doubt liked to have seen Hincapie brought in today.
At least we can now cross the Ecuador international off the list early doors, though. If there is a defender in the pipeline, it looks like it won’t be this one.
