Joe Gomez could reportedly leave Liverpool amid interest from Saudi Arabia despite pleas from Jurgen Klopp to stay this summer.

According to Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele, the 26-year-old defender could change his mind on leaving Liverpool if an offer from the Middle East was to come through for Gomez.

The centre-back was widely expected to leave Liverpool this summer, however, injuries and suspensions could now see Gomez remain at Anfield beyond the summer window.

The former Charlton Athletic star impressed on the weekend against Newcastle United, and there is an expectation that Gomez will start for Liverpool on Sunday against Aston Villa.

As a result, Liverpool and Klopp are reluctant to let Gomez leave despite the defender attracting lucrative interest from Saudi Arabia.

Indeed, Gomez’s performance for Liverpool on Sunday could be the beginning of a revivial for the defender on Merseyside, and Klopp must do all he can to keep the centre-back.

Many Liverpool fans would have wanted to see the back of Gomez at the start of the window, but football is a funny game at times.

The defender was key in the Reds securing a dramatic 2-1 win against Newcastle on Sunday, and with so little time left in the window, Liverpool simply can’t afford to let Gomez leave at this stage.

Whilst a transfer could be for the best, Liverpool know they will struggle to replace Gomez in the last two days of the window, though the defender could soon be back to his best if Sunday was any indicator.
