Nottingham Forest have reportedly made an opening to sign Wilfred Ndidi, who Liverpool have been linked with this week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Leicester City midfielder has been approached by Steve Cooper’s side, with personal terms already agreed as Forest now look to strike a deal with the Foxes.

The Independent reported earlier this week that Ndidi could be a target for Liverpool, with the Reds eyeing up the 26-year-old as a potential midfield signing to add more depth to the squad.

However, it now looks like Forest will win the race for Ndidi, with the Nigerian international a player who could thrive at the City Ground as a regular starter rather than backup for Liverpool.

As a result, the Reds have to return to the drawing board over a last-minute signing, with Liverpool now running out of options to add to their midfield before Friday’s deadline.

Ndidi always felt like an odd target for Liverpool, with the Leicester midfielder well below the level of quality the Reds should be looking to add to their squad this week.

And with Forest now making an offer to sign the 26-year-old, Liverpool won’t be losing much sleep over Ndidi potentially heading to Nottingham, where the midfielder could thrive under Cooper.

As for Liverpool, the Reds are now running out of options in the market, with the Anfield side now in the endgame when it comes to who they could sign this week.
