Liverpool have completed a deal to sign 16-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni from Leicester City.

The Reds had been rumoured to be in talks with Nyoni, as they looked to poach him from Leicester this summer.

And now, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have sealed the youngster’s arrival. Taking to Twitter last night, Romano confirmed the news.

“Done, completed. Talented midfielder born in 2006 Trey Nyoni joins Liverpool from Leicester,” reports the journalist.

The Secret Scout later suggested that Nyoni will slot straight into the U18 set-up with the Reds. Welcome, Trey!

Liverpool complete Nyoni capture

Although this perhaps isn’t the midfield signing Liverpool supporters are currently gagging for, it’s still super news.

As we’ve seen with the fairly recent captures of Ben Doak, Kaide Gordon and Harvey Elliott, these young additions can go on to have an impact with the first team.

All three of those players were brought in at 16, and all have gone on to play senior football with Liverpool. Elliott’s case in particular has shown that there is a clear pathway there.

Of course, not every teenager arriving at the club can be as prodigious as Harvey was. The former Fulham man had already made his Premier League just a month after his 16th birthday.

But if Liverpool have scouted them, sized them up and decided to bring them in, then there’s a good chance they’ve got something special.

For Nyoni, he’ll certainly have plenty of inspiration around him. The latest ‘outside hire’ for the academy – Irishman Trent Kone-Doherty – is another who looks poised for some first team action. The 17-year-old took part in senior training for the very first time on Tuesday.

That’s all for the future, though. For the now, hopefully Trey can simply get settled in and show what he can do. One to keep an eye on in the years to come, Reds.
