Owen Hargreaves has praised Liverpool’s decision to sign Wataru Endo, with the midfielder joining the Reds this week in a surprise transfer.

Speaking on Optus Sports, the former England international was seemingly flabbergasted by Liverpool’s move to sign the 30-year-old, who arrives from VfB Stuttgart with a huge reputation.

Endo was captain of the Bundesliga side and is regarded by many experts and professionals as a fantastic defensive midfielder, something Liverpool have been craving all summer.

And Hargreaves is seemingly surprised that Liverpool moved in for Endo, who this weekend made his debut for the Reds in a 3-1 Premier League win against AFC Bournemouth.

The pundit said: “Out of possession he is brilliant, in terms of pressing the ball. He’s amazing in the air considering he’s only 5′ 10”, honestly. His vertical, it’s insane.

“He was captain of Stuttgart, captain of his country. An absolute leader. He cost €20m (£16m) because he was 30 years old and had one year left [on his contract], but I think they’ve got a bit of a steal there.”

Few Liverpool fans had heard of Endo before his move to Anfield this week, yet based on what experts and pundits have had to say about the midfielder, the Reds have seemingly landed a bargain.

Whilst Endo’s age might be a concern to some supporters, there’s no denying that the Japanese international fills a void that has been left by Fabinho and Jordan Henderson’s exits this summer.

And with Hargreaves rating Endo as highly as he now has, Liverpool might have just landed themselves a bargain in the market out of nowhere.
