Liverpool are reportedly not that upset about missing out on Moises Caicedo, with the midfielder this week signing for Chelsea in a Premier League-record transfer.

According to journalist Rory Smith, the Reds are believed to be fine about the Ecuador international signing for the Blues despite making a £110m bid to bring Caicedo to Liverpool.

Smith said when asked about how the Anfield side now feel about the 21-year-old after the dust has all settled: “From what I understand I don’t think Liverpool are that upset about Caicedo.”

With Romeo Lavia also heading to Chelsea, it’s been a week to forget for Liverpool in terms of making a midfield signing of their own to add to their squad.

Whilst their stance on Caicedo now makes sense, the entire ordeal has now left Liverpool very vulnerable in the market heading into the final weeks.

Indeed, making a £100m+ bid has now alerted clubs that Liverpool have the money to spend big on new targets, and this could make rival teams push the Reds to the extremes over their desired players.

Liverpool made a big gamble in bidding for Caicedo, and with the midfielder now at Chelsea, the entire saga might have just thrown the Reds transfer business for the rest of the window into disarray.

As noted, clubs now know Liverpool have the money to spend big on transfer targets, and this can lead to the Anfield side overpaying massively for a player wanted by the Reds.

With Liverpool showing their full hand for Caicedo, there’s no telling what can happen now, with everyone aware that the Merseyside giants have money to splash this window.
