Romeo Lavia has reportedly decided to sign for Chelsea over Liverpool, with an announcement expected soon.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Blues have won the race for the Southampton star’s signature having made a £55m bid to sign Lavia last week, with Liverpool playing catchup.
Having made a £115m for Moises Caciedo, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have utterly shattered Liverpool’s transfer dreams in the last few days with Lavia now close to joining Chelsea instead of the Anfield side.
Praised by Jadon Sancho as a ‘special’ player, Lavia was expected by many to join Liverpool with Caicedo heading to Chelsea, yet the Belgian now appears set for a move to Stamford Bridge as well.
Indeed, Liverpool are now truly stuck in their plans to sign a defensive midfielder, with the 19-year-old Southampton star the ideal option had Caicedo slipped through the Reds fingertips this summer.

Liverpool have bottled signing Lavia spectacularly

There’s no way of sugarcoating how this transfer saga has gone for Liverpool. The Anfield side have utterly bottled their pursuit for Lavia, with the Reds somehow ending up empty-handed.
Having failed to meet Southampton’s asking price from the very start, Liverpool are now set to end the window without one of Lavia or Caicedo despite their pair being top targets for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
With just under three weeks before the window closes, Liverpool have to find a solution for their defensive midfield problems, with these issues something that should have been sorted well before the new season started.
