Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan to one day replace Alisson Becker at Anfield.

According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the France international is being scouted by Liverpool as a potential replacement for Alisson, with Milan already placing a €100m (£88m) price tag for Maignan.

Despite being just two years younger than Alisson, there is a case to be made that Maignan could one day be signed by Liverpool to replace the Brazilian superstar.

Maignan is regarded as one of the best keepers in all of Europe and has only now just become France’s no.1 with Hugo Lloris hanging up his gloves from Les Bleus.

However, whilst signing Maignan would be quite the move from Liverpool, Alisson is showing no signs of slowing down, with the keeper impressing this weekend for the Reds against Chelsea.

Indeed, whilst identifying a long-term replacement for Alisson will be on Liverpool’s mind, Maignan’s age and price tag make the Milan superstar a poor candidate to fulfill such a role.

Maignan is without question one of the best keepers on the planet and a player who could give Alisson a run for his money in the years to come. But for Liverpool, they simply have to look younger than the Frenchman.

At two years younger than Alisson, there’s not much difference in Maignan’s age than the Liverpool superstar, who could easily remain at his current world-class level for another five years.

As a result, Liverpool need to be looking at goalkeepers around 25-years-old as a potential replacement for Alisson, a market the Reds could be looking into as we speak.
