Chelsea are reportedly still in pole position to sign Romeo Lavia despite Liverpool today making a £60m offer to sign the Southampton midfielder.

According to the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella, the Blues remain the leading club for the 19-year-old’s signature, that is despite Liverpool submitting a better offer for Lavia this morning.

The Reds have this week accelerated plans to sign Lavia by making a bid well above what Southampton have been demanding for the midfielder this summer, with Liverpool’s £60m offer their fourth in total for the prospect.

However, despite Lavia being reportedly open to joining Liverpool all window, Chelsea remain in pole to sign the former Manchester City academy superstar.

Indeed, Chelsea are already closing in on Moises Caicedo for a Premier League record fee, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side could now be set to beat the Reds to another target in Lavia.

Liverpool’s pursuit for the Southampton midfielder has somehow become exciting after weeks of stale progress and agonisingly slow process. Yet the Reds now to step up and get Lavia over the line before Chelsea make their move.

The midfielder is exactly what Liverpool are looking for and what they’re desperately craving in the squad, with Lavia a player who can start for the Anfield side for the next five to ten years.

With Chelsea in pole position, though, Liverpool have to get a move on in getting Lavia’s signature done and dusted, with time of the upmost essence in the coming days.
