Jose Enrique has labelled Moises Caicedo’s move to Chelsea as ‘crazy’ after the Blues gazumped Liverpool in the race to sign the Brighton & Hove Albion star.

Taking to Twitter, the former Anfield defender seemed baffled by the entire transfer situation, with Chelsea beating Liverpool to Caicedo’s signature despite the Reds launching a club-record bid for the midfielder on Friday.

Since then, though, Chelsea bested Liverpool’s £110m offer for Caicedo with the Ecuador international now set to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with Romeo Lavia expected to follow suit.

The past few days have been a nightmare for Liverpool in the market, with Chelsea now set to sign both of Jurgen Klopp’s defensive midfield targets right from under their noses.

With just under three weeks left to go, Liverpool have to find a new plan quickly to solve their no. 6 issue, with time running out for the Reds to find a suitable alternative.

Liverpool’s transfer business has been crazy in the past few days, and Enrique said it himself, with the Reds going from landing to Caicedo to now ending up with nothing, including Lavia.

The Anfield side have been well and truly played in recent days by Chelsea, and with time running out, Liverpool could be short of options to sign instead of Caicedo.

Indeed, something might be happening in the background, but there’s no denying that Liverpool missing out on Caicedo is nothing short of a blow, especially in the manner it all unfolded.
