Chelsea are reportedly confident in securing Romeo Lavia’s signature after Moises Caicedo, another player Liverpool have made recent moves to sign.
According to ESPN, the west London side believe they can wrap up a move for the Southampton midfielder after Chelsea have completed a deal for Caicedo.
As per the report, the Blues are willing to pay over the odds to sign Lavia despite Liverpool having three bids rejected for the teenager, who could have been the ideal alternative for Caicedo.

With Chelsea now confident in signing Lavia, there’s a real chance that Liverpool could be in deep trouble in their bid to add a new defensive midfielder to their ranks.
Praised by Pep Guardiola as an ‘incredible’ player, Lavia would have been a dream second-choice option for Liverpool this window based on their interest in the teenager this summer.

Indeed, many expected Lavia to join the Reds with Caicedo set for Chelsea. However, the west London side now look primed to make an incredible double swoop for the promising duo.
Liverpool losing Lavia would be a major embarrassment

Liverpool missing out on Caicedo is one thing, but to lose the race for Lavia would be something else entirely, especially with the Merseyside giants having three bids rejected for the Southampton star.
Given the direction Caicedo is heading in, it makes sense why Lavia would end up at Liverpool. However, this update shatters that expectation completely, and not for the best.
Lavia could have flourished at Liverpool, yet the teenager heading to Chelsea leaves the Reds with egg on their face and now short of options in the transfer market.
