Moises Caicedo has reiterated that Chelsea are his first choice, as confusion surrounds his move to Liverpool.

Caicedo had looked set to join the Reds after their mammoth £111m offer was accepted late last night. However, after the Ecuadorian insisted that he wants to join Chelsea, the move has been thrown into doubt.

Now, Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy reports that the latest information from Caicedo’s agents is that the Blues have got the player’s side ‘boxed off.’

“Info from the player’s end is Chelsea have this first part boxed off – Caicedo reiterated they are his choice,” writes the journalist. “Clubs yet to confirm, but one feeling is it could be to get more [bag of money emoji].

“Still work to do in terms of making a formal offer Brighton deem acceptable in the circumstances.”

At this point, you have to ask the question ‘what are Liverpool still doing here?’ The player doesn’t want to join the Reds, that seems to be clear.

Although he’d be a great addition and would instantly solve Jurgen Klopp’s midfield issues, he isn’t interested in doing so.

It’s an old cliche that is often more nuanced than it sounds, but if he doesn’t want to be here, then we don’t want him.

Liverpool have had problems with players itching for moves away from Anfield at various points. If Caicedo’s behaviour here – and in January – is anything to go by, then he’ll do the same thing in the future, too.

The 21-year-old has already made some flirtatious comments towards Real Madrid [Football London]. Perhaps the Reds would be saving themselves a heap of trouble, and money, by pulling out now.

One reason not to, is that Liverpool then need to return to a market that knows they’re flush with cash.

The Reds have made a good schtick out of being the poor rich club. But that’s all shown itself to be nothing more than a negotiating ploy. They’re going to overpay wherever they turn now. They can thank Caicedo for that.
