Jose Enrique has reacted with dismay to the news that Liverpool could now lose out to Chelsea on Romeo Lavia.
News filtered through last night that the Blues have made an offer to Southampton for Lavia. And although there have been claims that the 19-year-old would still prefer to join Liverpool, it’s obviously a big concern to Reds supporters.
Since hanging up his boots, Enrique can definitely call himself one of those, and a vocal one at that. Taking to Twitter to react to reports of Chelsea’s bid for Lavia, the 37-year-old had a sarcastic message for Liverpool owners FSG.
“Thanks fsg for this well done,” Enrique wrote, alongside three applauding emojis.
It’s unclear who’s behind Liverpool’s failure to meet Southampton’s asking price for the 19-year-old. But, judging by this, the Spaniard is no doubt where the blame lies.

Enrique slams FSG over Lavia pursuit
With key figures like Michael Edwards and Julian Ward having left the club, we no longer know exactly who is running the recruitment at Liverpool.
Although FSG obviously hold the purse strings, it’s not completely certain how much they influence things in the transfer market.
They’ve obviously given the go-ahead for funds to be available to Jurgen Klopp to buy Lavia. Without that green light, Liverpool wouldn’t have even bid in the first place.

Given that their latest bid was just £5m short of Southampton’s asking price, you’d have to think that this isn’t a money issue.
Rather, it seems to be that the analysts, Klopp, Jorg Schmadtke, whoever, don’t think the Belgian is worth £50m. In that respect, it does seem a little harsh to lay the blame at the door of FSG. But plenty will anyway.
Ultimately, whether fans are happy or not will boil down to who, if anyone, is targeted instead of Lavia. If Liverpool walk away and go and bring in an even more exciting player, all will be forgiven. Should they up their bid and get the teenager, it’ll likely be forgotten too.
But should Liverpool lose out on Lavia and fail to find an alternative, then the knives really will be out. Enrique won’t be the only one upset.
