Don Hutchinson has said Liverpool must move for Moises Caicedo instead of Romeo Lavia with Chelsea now in the race for the Southampton star.
Taking to Twitter, the pundit suggested that Liverpool should abandon their plans to sign the Belgian international having now had three bids rejected for Lavia by the Saints, with their west London rivals interested in the midfielder.
With Chelsea themselves struggling to sign Caicedo, a move for the Brighton & Hove Albion star would make sense if Liverpool had the finances, with the Seagulls demanding at least £100m for the 21-year-old midfielder.
And Liverpool’s accounts have largely been the reason why the Anfield side have tackled their pursuit of Lavia so poorly, with the Reds simply unwilling to match Southampton’s £50m asking price.
However, with Chelsea last night making a £48m bid for Lavia, the pressure is now on for Liverpool to throw everything at Southampton to secure the Belgian’s signature, with Caicedo simply too expensive.

Liverpool must stick to Lavia despite calls to move for Caicedo
With Liverpool struggling to sign Lavia, a switch to Caicedo might make sense for some fans, yet given the obscene numbers Brighton want for their star man, the Reds simply have to stay on course for the Southampton talent.
Two years younger than Caicedo and available for half the price, Liverpool can’t afford to steer off course when it comes to signing a new midfielder, with Lavia the ideal addition for the Anfield side this summer.
And with the pressure now on for Liverpool to make a £50m bid, it could be a matter of hours before such an offer is made for the Merseyside giants.
